WhatsMyName Apps
How to use the username search
Nine short steps, from typing a name to exporting the results.
1. Type or paste a username
Type a username, or paste a profile link (for examplegithub.com/torvalds) and the username is pulled out for you. Check up to 5 at once by separating them with commas.2. Optional: pick categories
Leave All categories to check every site, or pick a few categories such as Social, Coding or Gaming for a faster, focused scan.3. Watch live results
Results stream in while the scan runs, with a progress bar showing how many sites have been checked. You can start reading straight away, or press Stop.4. Read the statuses
- Found: a profile appears to exist. Open it to confirm it is real and is who you think.
- Not found: the name looks free there. Sign up to claim it if you want it.
- Blocked: the site refused or rate-limited the check. Open the link yourself, or retry later.
- Unknown: the answer was unclear (timeout or page change). Check it by hand.
5. Switch Grid, List or Table, then filter and sort
Choose the view that suits you: Grid for scanning, List for detail, Table for comparing. Filter sites by name and sort A–Z, by category or by fastest response.6. See profile details
For Found results, the tool fetches the public name, avatar and bio when the site shows them. Avatars load directly from the checked sites, so those sites can see your IP address.7. Export or share results
Download everything as JSON or CSV (created in your browser), copy all found links, or share a link to the search.8. Retry failed checks
Press Retry failed to re-run only the checks that errored. If you hit the rate limit, a countdown appears and the scan resumes automatically when it ends.9. Privacy and responsible use
Usernames are sent to our server only to run the check and are never logged. Results are leads to verify, not facts about a person. WhatsMyName Apps is not a consumer reporting agency: do not use results for hiring, housing, credit or other FCRA purposes. Read the privacy policy.
Tips
- Paste a full profile URL; the username is extracted automatically.
- Compare spellings at once, e.g. "janedoe, jane_doe, jane.doe".
- Pick one or two categories when you only care about, say, gaming or coding sites.
- Use the domain check to see if the name is free as a .com, .net, .org, .io, .us, .app or .dev domain.
- Open Blocked results in your own browser: many sites only block automated checks.
FAQ
Is it free?
Yes. The search is free with no account or sign-up.
How many usernames can I check at once?
Up to 5, separated by commas.
Why does a Found profile not exist when I open it?
That is a false positive. Sites change their pages faster than detection rules are updated. Report it with the flag button on the result.
What should I do with Blocked or Unknown results?
Open the link yourself to check by hand, or press Retry failed a little later.
Do you keep the usernames I search?
No. They are used only to run the check and are not stored or logged. Recent searches are kept only in your own browser, and you can clear them.
Can I use the results to screen job applicants or tenants?
No. WhatsMyName Apps is not a consumer reporting agency, so results must not be used for employment, housing, credit, insurance or other FCRA purposes.
