Find Someone's Other Accounts by Username (2026)
By WhatsMyName Apps · Published · 4 min read · Editorial policy
Free, no sign-up. Checks 3,450+ sites; the username is not stored or logged.
People reuse usernames. A handle someone picked for a game at 14 often turns up later on a forum, a code site or a shopping profile. That makes a username one of the easiest starting points for finding other accounts. It also makes it easy to get wrong, because common handles belong to many different people.
This guide covers a careful method for legitimate reasons: checking that a seller, a match or a new contact is who they say they are, finding a friend you lost touch with, or seeing what is linked to your own name.
Step 1: Search the username everywhere at once
Checking sites one by one takes hours. A cross-site search does it in a minute or two. Type the handle into the WhatsMyName Apps username search, which checks 3,450+ sites and flags the ones where a profile seems to exist. It is free, needs no sign-up, and does not store the name you enter.
Try the obvious variations too. If the handle is quiet_fern, also search quietfern and quiet.fern. Different sites allow different symbols, so the same person may have had to adjust.
Step 2: Open every hit yourself
An automated "found" means a page answered at that address. It does not mean a real, active person, and it never means the same person. Open each result and note:
- Is the profile active, or empty and years old?
- Is there a photo, bio, location or link?
- Does anything point to another account, such as "also on YouTube" or a link-in-bio page?
Some sites block automated checks, so you will see "Unknown" or "Blocked" results. For those, open the profile link by hand.
Step 3: Decide what counts as a match
This is the step most people skip. Use a simple scale:
| Evidence | How strong | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Same username only | Weak | Two profiles called quietfern, nothing else in common |
| Same name plus similar topic | Some | Both post about birdwatching |
| Same photo or artwork | Good, but photos get copied | Identical avatar on both sites |
| One account links to the other | Strong | Instagram bio links to the YouTube channel |
| Confirmed by the person | Strongest | They tell you it is theirs |
Write down why you think two accounts are linked. If your only reason is the name, treat it as unconfirmed.
Other ways to find linked accounts
- Link-in-bio pages. Linktree and similar pages often list every account a person wants you to find.
- Search engines. Put the username in quotes. Old forum posts and comments sometimes show up.
- The platforms' own search. Discord, Snapchat and some others only let you find people by exact username inside the app. Our Discord lookup and Snapchat search guides explain how.
- Reverse lookups. Our reverse username lookup page explains what can and cannot be learned from a handle.
Other free checkers, such as FreeUsername.com, can serve as a second opinion, since every tool covers a different set of sites.
What a username search cannot do
- It cannot see private accounts or content behind a login.
- It cannot find accounts under a different username.
- It cannot tell you who owns an account. Only evidence can.
- It cannot search by real name, phone number or email. For those questions see finding someone by name.
Try it on yourself first
The best use of this method is often on your own handles. Search every username you have used, and you will probably find accounts you forgot. Our guide to finding old accounts covers what to do next: secure them, delete them or claim the ones you still want.
FAQ
Is it legal to search someone's username?
Looking at public profiles is generally legal. What you do with the results can break harassment, stalking or privacy laws, and rules differ by country. This is not legal advice.
Does the person know I searched their username?
Our search does not notify anyone. Some sites show profile visitors, so opening a profile could be seen.
Why does the search show accounts that are not theirs?
Because many people use the same handle. A hit only means a page exists at that address. Confirm with real evidence.
Can I find someone's hidden or anonymous accounts?
No, and you should not try. This method only finds public profiles under the same name, and anonymous accounts usually exist for a reason.
