Version 0.0.2: our own independent engine
Every username check on WhatsMyName Apps now runs on the FreeUsername™ engine, a private engine we designed and built independently. It has its own site list and its own detection rules, and each site is added and re-verified with our own tools. The search covers 3,450+ sites.
- We removed all third-party site lists and detection data from the website, including the WhatsMyName, Sherlock and Maigret data used in version 0.0.1.
- We are not affiliated with any other username-search tool or project. The engine comes from FreeUsername (freeusername.com), our own project.
- Results now stream in as each site answers, with the best-known sites first.
- Sites that fail our nightly checks are hidden automatically until they work again.
Once the project reaches its main goals, we plan to open-source parts of the code so others can learn from it and build on it.
Version 0.0.1: first release
The first version of WhatsMyName Apps combined public open-source username datasets (WhatsMyName, Sherlock and Maigret) to check usernames across many sites. That data has been fully replaced in version 0.0.2.
