Etsy Username Checker
Etsy has three names: a username that can never change, a shop name for sellers, and a preferred name on your profile. The username appears in etsy.com/people/name. This checker looks up that profile link, and the rules below cover shop names too.

How to check a Etsy username
- Enter the username you want to look up, as it would appear in etsy.com/people/<name>.
- We load etsy.com/people/<name>. Etsy uses bot protection, so automated lookups sometimes return "Blocked" instead of a clear answer.
- Check by hand by visiting etsy.com/people/<name> in a browser while signed out.
- For a shop name, visit etsy.com/shop/<name> as well; shop names and usernames are separate, and a free username does not mean the shop name is free.
Etsy username taken? What you can do
- Since usernames cannot be changed, put your brand into the shop name instead, which you can edit.
- For shop names, use capitals to separate words (MiaMakesCandles) because spaces and punctuation are not allowed.
- If you hold rights to a shop name someone else uses, Etsy suggests contacting the member first, or filing an intellectual property notice. Filing does not free up the name for you.
- A shop name you used on an old account stays locked; reopen that shop instead of trying to reuse the name.
How to change your Etsy username
- Usernames cannot be changed. To change your shop name, go to Shop Manager, then Settings, then Your shop.
- Under Shop name, select Edit, enter the new name and select Save.
- To change your preferred name, use Account settings, then Edit public profile on a browser (not the app).
Reserved and restricted names
Shop names cannot contain profanity, cannot already be in use, and must not infringe someone else's trademark. Once a shop name has been used on an open shop, Etsy retires it for everyone, even after the shop closes.
Tips
- Changing a shop name redirects old links to the new one and shows a notice to buyers for 45 days.
- Capitalization changes and returning to a previous shop name do not count against the 5-change limit.
- Keep your username neutral; it is public and permanent, while the shop name carries your brand.
