Sites Like TruePeopleSearch in 2026: What They Show and How to Opt Out
By WhatsMyName Apps team · · 9 min read
If you found yourself on TruePeopleSearch, you are almost certainly on a dozen similar sites too. They draw on the same kinds of records, several of them are run by the same companies, and a listing removed from one stays live on the others. This guide looks at the most common sites like TruePeopleSearch from the point of view of the person being listed: what they show about you, who runs them, and how to get off each one.
We did not search anyone's name for this article. On October 13, 2026 we sent plain web requests to each site's homepage and opt-out page, read the opt-out pages that loaded, and matched each site to its operator in the California data broker registry. Where a page blocked us, the table says so instead of guessing.
What people-search sites are and where their data comes from
People-search sites build a profile for almost every adult in the US and let anyone look it up by name, phone number or address. A typical free listing shows your age, current and past cities, relatives and people you have lived with, and partial phone numbers or addresses. A paid report adds full contact details and sometimes court or property records.
The data mostly comes from four places:
- Public records: property deeds, court filings, business registrations and, in some states, voter files.
- Commercial data: marketing lists, old phone directories and data bought from other brokers.
- Other people-search sites: brokers buy from and resell to each other, which is why a removal on one site can be undone by a fresh feed from another.
- Public web pages: some sites add social profiles or photos linked to a name.
The US Federal Trade Commission explains the business model and your options in What to know about people search sites that sell your information.
14 sites like TruePeopleSearch, checked October 13, 2026
"Responded" means what came back to a plain web request from our server. A browser check (HTTP 403) usually means the site is live but blocks automated visitors, so you should still be able to open it in a normal browser. Operators come from each company's current filing in the California data broker registry. Response times marked "registry" are the median days each company reported for handling opt-out requests in that filing.
| Site | Responded (Oct 13, 2026) | Operator (CA registry) | Opt-out page | What it asks for | Removal time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TruePeopleSearch | Browser check (403) | Free Data Services, LLC, San Francisco | truepeoplesearch.com/removal | Page blocked our request; registry lists [email protected] | 1 day median (registry) |
| FastPeopleSearch | Loaded in a full browser render | Mississippi Tornado Alley, LLC, Sacramento | fastpeoplesearch.com/removal | Name, email and a captcha; then a form matching your record. No ID. | "Allow 3 days" (site) |
| Whitepages | Live (200) | Whitepages, Inc., Seattle | whitepages.com/suppression-requests | Five-step form that starts with your profile URL | 1 day median (registry) |
| Spokeo | Live (200) | Spokeo, Inc., Pasadena | spokeo.com/optout | Listing URL and an email to confirm. No ID. | 24 to 48 hours (site) |
| BeenVerified | Browser check | BeenVerified, LLC, New York | beenverified.com/svc/optout/search/ | Page blocked our request | 10 days median (registry) |
| Intelius | Live (200) | Intelius, LLC, San Diego | Redirects to suppression.peopleconnect.us | Suppression center (needs JavaScript; we could not read the steps) | 1 day median (registry) |
| TruthFinder | Opt-out redirects | TruthFinder, LLC, San Diego | Redirects to the same suppression center | As above | 1 day median (registry) |
| Instant Checkmate | Opt-out redirects | Instant Checkmate LLC, San Diego | Redirects to the same suppression center | As above | 1 day median (registry) |
| PeopleFinders | Browser check (403) | Peoplefinders, LLC, San Francisco | peoplefinders.com/opt-out | Page blocked our request | 1 day median (registry) |
| FamilyTreeNow | Browser check (403) | Family Tree Now, LLC, Los Angeles | familytreenow.com/optout | Page blocked our request | 1 day median (registry) |
| MyLife | Live (200) | Insightbridge LLC, Sheridan, WY | Privacy links on mylife.com | Not checked in detail | 2 days median (registry) |
| Nuwber | No response from our server | Nuwber Inc, Alexandria, VA | Removal link on nuwber.com | Could not load | Filing reports 0 requests |
| Radaris | Court notice | Domain transferred by court order | None | See below | n/a |
| PeekYou | Court notice | Domain now controlled by Atlas Data Privacy Corp. | None | See below | n/a |
None of the opt-out pages we could read asked for a photo ID. Be wary of any form that does. You should only need enough to identify your listing and an email address to confirm the request.
One company, many sites
The registry also shows which brand names each company runs, and this changes how much work an opt-out takes. A few examples from the current filings:
- Mississippi Tornado Alley, LLC lists FastPeopleSearch, CyberBackgroundChecks, AdvancedBackgroundChecks, FastBackgroundCheck, PeopleSearchNow, Phonebooks, SearchPeopleFree, SmartBackgroundChecks, USA-People-Search and USPhoneBook.
- Spokeo, Inc. lists Spokeo, ThatsThem, AnyWho, FreePeopleDirectory, PeopleWin and Family.me. Its filing says that, at the time of writing, one opt-out on its page covers all of its public sites.
- BeenVerified, LLC lists BeenVerified alongside PeopleLooker, PeopleSmart, NeighborWho, Ownerly, NumberGuru and several reverse-phone sites.
- Intelius, LLC lists Intelius, US Search and several record-search sites. The opt-out links for Intelius, US Search, TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate all redirected to the same PeopleConnect suppression center when we checked.
So before you start, group your list by operator. One request may cover a whole family of sites, while two sites that look alike may need separate requests.
TruePeopleSearch vs FastPeopleSearch: same company?
The two names sound like siblings, and many people assume one opt-out covers both. The public record says otherwise. In the California registry, TruePeopleSearch.com is filed under Free Data Services, LLC of San Francisco, and FastPeopleSearch.com under Mississippi Tornado Alley, LLC of Sacramento. We found no filing or reputable source showing a shared parent, so treat them as separate and opt out of each.
Watch the address bar too. A 2024 KrebsOnSecurity investigation, The Not-so-True People-Search Network from China, traced look-alike domains such as truepeoplesearch.net and fastpeoplesearch.io to a network that used invented founder personas. Those are not the .com sites in the table. Only submit opt-outs on the domain that actually lists you.
What the registry numbers show
California requires data brokers to report how many privacy requests they received and how they handled them. Here are the opt-out figures (requests to stop selling or sharing personal information) from each company's current filing. The filing form labels its response-time questions as covering 2024.
| Company (main site) | Opt-out requests | Complied in full | Denied | Median days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spokeo, Inc. | 3,795,579 | 3,785,787 | 9,792 | 1 |
| Mississippi Tornado Alley (FastPeopleSearch) | 1,204,017 | 993,412 | 207,021 | 1 |
| Peoplefinders, LLC | 1,031,034 | 941,600 | 89,434 | 1 |
| BeenVerified, LLC | 657,801 | 378,175 | 111,001 | 10 |
| TruthFinder, LLC | 487,758 | 487,758 | 0 | 1 |
| Free Data Services (TruePeopleSearch) | 433,773 | 309,142 | 124,631 | 1 |
| Intelius, LLC | 226,356 | 226,356 | 0 | 1 |
| Family Tree Now, LLC | 188,695 | 141,866 | 46,829 | 1 |
| Instant Checkmate LLC | 152,823 | 152,823 | 0 | 1 |
| Insightbridge (MyLife) | 37,196 | 36,677 | 519 | 2 |
| Whitepages, Inc. | 34,722 | 33,747 | 975 | 1 |
Two things stand out. First, the scale: millions of opt-out requests a year, which tells you how many people are doing exactly what this guide describes. Second, denials are not rare. TruePeopleSearch's operator reported denying about 29% of opt-out requests, and FastPeopleSearch's about 17%. BeenVerified reported another 168,625 requests as complied with only in part. The filings do not say why. A common cause is a request that does not match a record, so fill in each form carefully and check the result afterwards.
Sites that are gone or changed
New Jersey's Daniel's Law lets judges, police officers, prosecutors and other covered people demand that data brokers stop publishing their home addresses and unlisted phone numbers. A company called Atlas Data Privacy Corp. has sued many brokers on behalf of thousands of covered people, and in 2026 two well-known sites changed hands as a result:
- Radaris. On October 13, 2026, radaris.com showed a court notice saying the domain had been transferred to Atlas under a final default judgment entered on August 27, 2026 by the Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex County (Docket MID-L-000847-24), which also covered Rehold.com and Trustoria.com. Techlicious reported the transfer in September 2026 and noted that the same network runs other people-search domains the order did not touch.
- PeekYou. peekyou.com now shows a notice that the domain is controlled by Atlas after Atlas and PeekYou LLC settled a Daniel's Law suit in Essex County (Docket ESX-L-003299-25).
A gone domain does not mean your data is gone. The same records can surface on sister sites, so keep checking your name on the sites that remain.
A step-by-step opt-out workflow
- Set up a separate email address for opt-out confirmations, so the messages do not land in your main inbox.
- Search your name plus your city in a search engine and note which people-search sites list you. Repeat with past cities and name variants.
- Group the sites by operator using the table and the list above.
- Open each listing and copy its URL. Several forms (Spokeo, Whitepages) start from the listing URL.
- Submit the opt-out on the site's own page and click the confirmation email within the time limit (FastPeopleSearch's link expires after 24 hours).
- Log the request in the tracking table below.
- Re-check after a week, then monthly for a few months. Listings often come back when a new record arrives with a different address or spelling.
Our guide to removing yourself from people-search sites has screen-by-screen steps for TruePeopleSearch, Spokeo, Whitepages and BeenVerified. If you live in California, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) sends one deletion request to every registered broker, which covers most companies in this article.
Opt-out tracking table
| Site | Operator | Listing URL | Requested | Confirmed by email | Re-check on | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FastPeopleSearch | Mississippi Tornado Alley | Your listing URL | Oct 13 | Yes | Oct 20 | Pending |
| Spokeo | Spokeo, Inc. | Your listing URL | Oct 13 | Yes | Oct 15 | Removed |
| Whitepages | Whitepages, Inc. | Your listing URL | Oct 13 | Not needed | Oct 20 | Pending |
FCRA and legal use
Most people-search sites state in their terms that they are not consumer reporting agencies under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. That means their results must not be used to decide whether to hire someone, rent them a home, or give them credit or insurance. Those decisions require an FCRA-compliant background check, with the person's permission. Using a people-search report for them can break the law, and the data is often wrong or out of date anyway.
Some states also limit what can be published about certain people. Daniel's Law in New Jersey is the best-known example, and California's Delete Act gives every resident a single deletion route.
Why username search is different
WhatsMyName Apps is not a people-search site, and we are not a consumer reporting agency. We do not search by name, address or phone number, and we do not hold records about anyone.
What we do is check whether a username has a public profile page on 3,165 sites. That covers a part of your footprint people-search sites miss: accounts you opened yourself, under handles you may have forgotten, whose bios can still show your name, photo or town. Run your own usernames to find them, and use our digital footprint check for the full self-audit. The username is sent to our server only to run the check and is not stored or logged.
FAQ
What are the best free sites like TruePeopleSearch?
We do not recommend looking people up on these sites. If you want to see what they show about you, FastPeopleSearch, Whitepages, Spokeo and the PeopleConnect brands are the ones that most often rank for a name search, and the table above lists their opt-out pages.
Does opting out of TruePeopleSearch remove me from FastPeopleSearch?
No. They are filed under different companies in the California registry, so each needs its own request.
Do I need to send ID to opt out?
None of the opt-out pages we could read asked for ID. Most need your listing URL or name and an email address to confirm.
How long does removal take?
Spokeo says 24 to 48 hours and FastPeopleSearch says to allow 3 days. Most companies reported a median of 1 day in their registry filings, with BeenVerified at 10 days. Re-check either way, because listings can return.
Why did my listing come back?
Brokers keep importing new records. If a new one arrives with a different address or a spelling variant, it can create a fresh listing. Repeat the opt-out and log the new URL.
Is it legal for these sites to publish my information?
Generally yes in the US when the data comes from public records, but state laws are changing. California, New Jersey and a growing list of other states give residents removal or opt-out rights.
TruePeopleSearch, FastPeopleSearch, Whitepages, Spokeo, BeenVerified, Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, PeopleFinders, FamilyTreeNow, MyLife, Nuwber, Radaris and PeekYou are trademarks of their respective owners. WhatsMyName Apps is not affiliated with any of them. Opt-out processes change often; each site's own page is the final word.
