How to check a Roblox username
- Enter the name exactly as you want it. Roblox only lets you use one underscore, so names like __mia__ will fail no matter what.
- This check uses Roblox's username validation endpoint, the same kind of check the sign-up form performs, so it can also catch names that are filtered rather than taken. Roblox throttles repeated lookups; a "Blocked" result just means try again later or check in the app.
- To confirm yourself, search the name under People on roblox.com. An exact match on a profile means it is in use.
- The rename screen is the final check: Settings, Account Info, then the pencil icon next to Username.
Roblox username taken? What you can do
- Use your free display name for the look you want, and pick a unique but less perfect username underneath.
- Add a single underscore or a number between words: Mia_Builds or MiaBuilds7.
- Roblox does not let you take a name that belongs to another account or swap names with your alt account, so trading names with a friend will not work.
- Report accounts impersonating you or Roblox staff through the in-game or website report tools.
How to change your Roblox username
- Log in and open account Settings (gear icon on the web, the More menu in the app).
- Select the Account Info tab and press the pencil icon next to Username.
- Enter the new username and your current password.
- Press Buy to pay the Robux fee. You then sign in with the new name.
Reserved and restricted names
Roblox filters all usernames and refuses ones that break its Community Standards, including names that impersonate Roblox staff or other players. If you use the right to be forgotten, your past usernames are permanently retired and cannot be reused.
Tips
- Changing back to an old username costs Robux too, so be sure before you rename.
- Roblox gives no discount for small edits like capitalization; a case-only change is a full-price rename.
- Your account creation date carries over to the new name, so a rename does not reset account age.
