One handle everywhere: a checklist for creators
Followers find you by typing your name into a search bar. If you are @jessbakes on TikTok, @jess.bakes.daily on Instagram and @jessbakes2 on YouTube, some of them will land on the wrong account. Checking a handle on 3,166 sites before you commit takes a few minutes and saves a rebrand later.
Free, no sign-up. Up to five usernames, 3,166 sites. The username is not stored or logged.
Why handles drift apart
Most creators start on one app and add others as they grow. By the time you open a YouTube channel or a Patreon, the name you built an audience on may already belong to someone else there, so you add a number or an underscore and move on. Repeat that across five platforms and your name looks different everywhere.
That costs you in small ways. Cross-promotion is clumsier ("find me at jess underscore bakes underscore official"), sponsors have a harder time confirming which account is yours, and impersonators have an easier time, because your fans are used to slight variations.
How the tool helps you choose
Enter up to five candidate handles and the tool checks each one on 3,166 sites, grouped by category so you can focus on social, video, music or art platforms. Each site comes back as Found, Not found, Blocked or Unknown. Treat every one of them as a lead to verify, not a verdict. A handle that comes back Not found on all the platforms you care about is a strong candidate. One that is Found on your main platform is out, no matter how good it sounds.
When a site shows Found, you get the public profile details where available, so you can see whether the account is active or abandoned. If you also want a website, the name checker tests the name as a domain on .com, .net, .org, .io, .us, .app and .dev at the same time as popular platforms.
Step by step
- Shortlist five handles. Write down five options that are short, easy to spell out loud and free of numbers you would have to explain. Include your current handle if you want to keep it.
- Check them all in one search. Enter the five handles separated by commas and run the search. Filter to the categories where you publish.
- Rule out handles taken on your main platforms. Drop any handle that shows Found on a platform you already rely on or plan to use. Open Blocked and Unknown results in your browser to confirm by hand.
- Claim the winner the same day. Register the chosen handle on every platform you might use in the next year, even ones you will not post to yet. A placeholder profile with a link to your main account is enough.
- Export the list and keep it. Download the results as CSV so you have a record of where you claimed the name and which platforms still need attention.
Tips for a handle that lasts
- Avoid tying the handle to one platform or format, such as "tiktok" or "vlogs", in case you move.
- Skip trailing numbers and years. They look like a fallback and date quickly.
- Say it out loud. If you need to spell it for a podcast listener, it is probably too complicated.
- Check each platform's own rules before you settle. Our platform username checkers list length and character limits.
Frequently asked questions
What should I do if my handle is taken on one platform?
Use a close variant there, such as adding a short word that fits your niche, and link it from your main profile so fans can confirm it is you. Avoid random numbers if you can.
Should I claim platforms I do not use yet?
If the name matters to your brand, yes. A placeholder profile protects the handle and points people to your active account.
Can I check display names?
The tool checks usernames, the unique part of a profile URL. Display names are usually not unique, so there is nothing to claim.
How many handles can I compare?
Up to five per search, each against 3,166 sites. Results export as JSON or CSV.
Does it cost anything?
No. The search is free and needs no sign-up.
