Snapchat Username Checker
Snapchat only lets you change your username once a year, which makes it one of the stickiest handles on any app. Friends add you with it, and it appears in snapchat.com/@name. Try a name below, then compare it with Snapchat's published rules.

How to check a Snapchat username
- Make sure the name starts with a letter and is no longer than 15 characters, or Snapchat will reject it regardless of availability.
- Our check loads snapchat.com/@<name>, which only shows public profiles. Private accounts may not have a page there, so "Not found" is not proof the name is free.
- For a hand check, visit snapchat.com/@<name> or search the name inside the app's Add Friends screen.
- Snapchat sometimes rejects automated requests, which appears as "Blocked." The rename screen in Settings is the only certain test.
Snapchat username taken? What you can do
- Use the one separator you are allowed: mia.b, mia_b or mia-b.
- Put a number at the end (Snapchat requires the last character to be a letter or number, so a trailing digit is fine).
- Put the name you want in your Display Name instead. It does not need to be unique and you can change it any time.
- If an account is pretending to be you, report it in the app; impersonation breaks Snapchat's Community Guidelines.
How to change your Snapchat username
- In My Account, tap the gear icon to open Settings.
- Under Shortcuts, tap My Account, then Username under Change My Info.
- Tap Change Username, enter the new name and tap Next.
- Enter your password and tap Confirm. Snap Stars must use a request form instead.
Reserved and restricted names
Usernames must follow Snapchat's Community Guidelines, so offensive names and names that impersonate other people or brands can be refused or removed. Usernames cannot contain a phone number.
Tips
- Because the next change is a year away, test how the name looks in a chat header before you confirm.
- Friends can find you by your Display Name or your latest username, so a rename does not hide your account.
- Skip hyphens if you share your name verbally; underscores and periods are easier for people to guess correctly.
