Your eBay username, also called your user ID, is the name buyers and sellers see next to your feedback. It is also the end of your profile link, ebay.com/usr/name. Type a name below to get that link, then read eBay's username policy before you pick or change one.

eBay username rules

Length	6 to 64 characters, with no spaces or tabs.
Allowed characters	Letters, numbers, and the star (*), hyphen, dot and underscore. No two underscores in a row, and a username cannot start with an underscore, hyphen or dot.
Not allowed	Email or web addresses (including endings like .com or _com), phone numbers, all-numeric names, the word eBay, the letter e followed by numbers, offensive words, and other companies' trademarks. It also cannot match your email ID.
Change frequency	Once every 30 days.
After a change	Your feedback and account details move to the new name. The old name is held for 30 days, and an icon shows next to your username for 30 days.

How to check a eBay username

Enter the username, the part after ebay.com/usr/. A name under 6 characters or with a space cannot be an eBay username.
We do not query eBay. In our October 2026 test eBay answered every automated request with an error page (HTTP 403), for real and made-up names alike, so our result always shows Unknown with a note to check by hand.
By hand: open ebay.com/usr/<name> in your browser. A member profile with feedback means the name is taken. eBay's "User ID you entered was not found" message means nobody uses it.
The final test is eBay's change-username form in My eBay, which only accepts a name that no other member holds.

eBay username taken? What you can do

Add what you sell or a short word: mia-vintage, mias.cards, mia_records. Dots, hyphens and underscores are fine in the middle of a name.
Leave out phone numbers, .com endings and the word eBay. The policy bans them even when the name is free.
When someone changes their username, eBay holds the old one for 30 days, so a name that was just released may not be open straight away.
If a username uses your trademark, eBay's policy does not allow names that could be confused with another company's brand. Report it through eBay's Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) program.

How to change your eBay username

Sign in and open the personal information section of My eBay. eBay's help page on changing your username also links straight to the form.
Choose to change your username and type the new one.
Save. The new name replaces the old one everywhere on eBay, and your feedback score moves with it.
You will not be able to change it again for 30 days.

Reserved and restricted names

Only eBay employees can use the word eBay in a username. eBay also blocks offensive language, names that look like an email or web address, and names that could be confused with another company's brand. If your username was registered after November 2001 and is an email or web address, eBay requires you to change it.

Tips

Your username carries your feedback reputation. eBay warns that buyers and sellers may have a harder time finding you after a change, so pick one you will keep.
Keep your username different from your email address. eBay does not allow the two to match.
eBay Store names follow looser rules and can contain spaces and some symbols such as &, so your store name and username do not have to be the same.

Can I find an eBay user by real name or email?

Not with this page. It only takes a username and does not look up real names or email addresses.

How often can I change my eBay username?

Why does the checker say Unknown for eBay?
