VSCO Username Checker
On VSCO, your profile name is your username and your address: vsco.co/name. It has to be unique, lowercase and at least 3 characters long. Type a name below to get that link. VSCO blocks automated requests from our server, so the check usually ends with a link you open yourself.
VSCO username rules
| Allowed characters | Letters, numbers and dashes only. No periods, underscores, capital letters or other special characters. |
|---|---|
| Length | At least 3 characters. VSCO's help center does not publish a maximum. |
| Uniqueness | Each profile name belongs to one account. |
| Profile name vs Title | The profile name is your unique username. The Title is a display name shown on your profile, and you can set it to anything that fits the guidelines. |
| About section | Up to 140 characters. |

VSCO search and VSCO people search
VSCO search covers three things: images, people and blogs. On the web it lives at vsco.co/search. Anyone can browse Images and Blogs there, but the People tab asks you to sign up or log in before it shows photographer results. VSCO says the login step is there to keep discovery safer for creators.
In the app, search sits inside Discover: tap the magnifying glass and type a keyword, hashtag or username. To find a friend, open People from the menu. Contacts matches people in your phone's address book, and the + icon lets you enter a VSCO username.
This page does something narrower. It takes one username and builds vsco.co/name, so you can open the profile without an account. To see whether the same name is used on other sites, run it through our username search.
How to check a VSCO username
- Enter the profile name without vsco.co/. VSCO names cannot contain capitals, periods or underscores, so a name with them cannot exist as typed.
- We request vsco.co/<name>/gallery. In our October 2026 test VSCO refused every request from our server with HTTP 403, real profile or not, so expect "Unknown" with a note to check by hand. We never count a refused request as Found.
- By hand: open vsco.co/<name> in your browser. A profile with a grid of images means the name is taken. A not-found page suggests it is free.
- The final test is the Profile name field in the app (Profile, the three-dot menu, Edit Profile, My info). Names must be unique, so VSCO will not save one that another account holds.
VSCO username taken? What you can do
- Add a dash or a short word: mia-photo, miashoots, mia-film. The dash is the only separator VSCO accepts.
- Match the handle you use elsewhere as closely as you can. If yours has a period or underscore, swap it for a dash or drop it.
- Put the exact name you want in your Title. It shows next to your profile image and does not have to be unique.
- If a profile pretends to be you, report it to VSCO through its support center rather than trying to get the name another way.
How to change your VSCO username
- Open the VSCO app and tap the Profile icon.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right and choose Edit Profile, then My info.
- Tap Edit next to your Profile name, enter the new name, tap Apply and then Save.
- On the web: open your profile, click the pencil icon, open My info, click the pencil next to Profile Name, then Update and Save.
Reserved and restricted names
VSCO does not publish a list of reserved names. Like everything else on a profile, the profile name has to follow VSCO's Community Guidelines.
Tips
- VSCO has no setting that only removes you from search. Your profile and grid stay public, and VSCO suggests Galleries or Spaces if you want to share with a smaller circle.
- Blocking someone limits how they can follow, message and view you, but VSCO says it does not remove either of you from search results.
- Because VSCO drops periods and underscores, your name there may differ a little from your other handles. Mention it in your other bios so friends can find you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I search for people on VSCO?
In the app, open Discover, tap the magnifying glass and type a keyword, hashtag or username. On vsco.co/search, the People tab asks you to log in first. To add a friend by username, open People from the app menu and tap the + icon; Contacts suggests people from your phone's address book.
Can I search VSCO without an account?
Partly. Logged out, vsco.co/search shows Images and Blogs, but People search needs an account. If you already know someone's username, you can open vsco.co/name directly, and that is the link this page builds.
Can I find someone on VSCO by their real name?
Not with this page. It only takes a username and does not look up real names. VSCO's own People search, once you are logged in, is the place to try a name.
Why does the checker say Unknown for VSCO?
VSCO refuses automated requests from our server (HTTP 403), so we cannot see the answer. Open vsco.co/name in your browser, where profiles load normally.
What characters can a VSCO username have?
Lowercase letters, numbers and dashes, with at least 3 characters. VSCO does not accept periods, underscores, capital letters or other special characters.
