osu! Username Checker

By WhatsMyName Apps · Reviewed October 18, 2026 · Editorial policy

In osu!, your username is what other players see on leaderboards, in multiplayer and on your profile. Changing it later usually costs money, so check the name first. Enter one below for an osu! username search, then read the rules from the official osu! wiki.

How to search for someone on osu! by username

Open osu.ppy.sh/users/name: a real player redirects to their numbered profile, so the link works with either the name or the ID. The search box on the osu! website also lists players. Spaces count, so "my name" and "my_name" are two different players.

osu! sometimes answers our server with a challenge page. Then the result is "Can't verify", and you can run it again or open the link. This page does not look up real names.

How to check a osu! username

Type the name as you want it. Spaces count, so "my name" and "my_name" are different names.
We load osu.ppy.sh/users/<name>. A real player redirects to their numbered profile, and a missing name shows osu!'s "User not found" page.
osu! sometimes answers automated requests with a challenge. Then you see "Can't verify" instead of a guess; run the check again or open the link.
The final word comes from the osu!store name change page, which tells you whether a name can be taken.

osu! username taken? What you can do

Add a bracket tag or a dash: [jane], jane-osu. osu! allows square brackets, dashes, underscores and spaces.
If the owner has not signed in for 6 months and never played, the name can be claimed for the standard fee on the store page. Players with plays get extra time, and names with ranked beatmaps or badges are never released.
If you only want different capitals or a small spelling fix to your own name, osu! support can do that for free a limited number of times.
Keep in mind that your profile shows your past purchased names, so a new name does not hide the old ones.

How to change your osu! username

Open the player name change page on the osu!store while signed in.
Type the new username and check that it is free.
Redeem your free change if you have ever had a supporter tag, or pay the listed price.
For a capitalisation-only fix, email osu! account support instead of buying a change.

Reserved and restricted names

osu! does not allow offensive usernames, and names that impersonate major public figures, such as celebrities and politicians, are forcibly reverted. Names of players with ranked beatmaps or profile badges cannot be claimed even when the account is idle.

Tips

Since changes get more expensive each time, pick a name you plan to keep.
Spaces are allowed, but players often type names with underscores instead, so a name without spaces is easier to find.
Your free revert covers only your direct previous name, and only once a year.
