VK Username Checker

By WhatsMyName Apps · Reviewed October 18, 2026 · Editorial policy

Every VK page starts with a numeric address such as vk.com/id123. You can swap it for a short address, vk.com/name, in your settings. Enter a short address below for a VK username search: we look it up on vk.com, then link you to the page.

VK username rules

What the username is	The short address of your page: vk.com/name instead of vk.com/id plus a number.
Length	5 to 32 characters.
Allowed characters	Latin letters a-z, numbers 0-9, single underscores and dots.
Combinations	No more than two digits at the start, nothing that looks like a phone number, no underscore at the start or end, and at least four characters after a dot, the first of them a letter.
Uniqueness	The address cannot be in use by someone else. If it is, VK suggests changing it or adding characters.
Change limit	VK says you can change your short address whenever you like.
Banned words	No obscene words, and no registered trademarks or brand names unless you own them.

How to search for someone on VK by username

Open vk.com/name, or vk.com/id followed by the number if the person never set a short address. VK's own search is the place to look for people by name once you are signed in.

VK shows logged-out visitors a generic page for many real profiles, so our check often says "Can't verify". Open the link and check it by hand.

How to check a VK username

Type only the part after vk.com/. An address under 5 characters, or with characters other than Latin letters, numbers, dots and underscores, cannot exist.
We load vk.com/<name>. A missing address answers with HTTP 404, which we show as "Looks available".
In our October 2026 test, real profiles came back with a generic logged-out VK page that does not say whose page it is. We show those as "Can't verify" and never guess. Open the link to see the page.
The final test is VK's Settings page: type the address you want, and VK will tell you if another page holds it.

VK username taken? What you can do

Add a word, a dot or an underscore: mia.draws or mia_spb. Keep at least four characters after a dot, starting with a letter.
Use the same handle you have elsewhere, adjusted a little, so people can match your accounts.
Communities use the same address space as profiles. A name can be taken by a group, not a person.
To ask for an address someone else holds, use the "I want a taken address" request at the bottom of VK's short address help page.

How to change your VK username

On a computer, click your profile icon in the top right and open Settings.
Find the Page address field, type the new address and claim it.
In the app: Menu, the three dots, Settings, Account, then Short name, and tap Done.
An "invalid format" error means the address breaks the rules above. Changing a profile address also changes your page nickname.

Reserved and restricted names

VK's Terms of Service ban obscene words, and registered trademarks, brand names or commercial designations unless you own them. If an address breaks this, VK can take it away and give it to the rights holder.

Tips

Your numeric id link, vk.com/id plus a number, keeps working whatever short address you pick.
Pick a short address you can say out loud. It is what people type when you tell them where to find you.
VK pages can be closed to people who are not friends, so an existing page may show little when you open it logged out.

Frequently asked questions

What is a VK username?

It is the short address of your page, vk.com/name. Without one, your link uses a numeric id such as vk.com/id123.

How long can a VK short address be?

5 to 32 characters, using Latin letters, numbers, dots and underscores. VK also refuses addresses that look like phone numbers.

Can I see who viewed my VK profile?

No. VK says it has never had a way to see who viewed your profile. Apps that claim to show visitors only look at public activity such as likes.

Why does the checker say it can't verify a VK name?

VK shows logged-out visitors a generic page for real profiles, so we cannot tell whose page it is. A missing address returns a clear 404, which we show as "Looks available". For anything else, open the link.

Can I find someone on VK by real name with this page?

No. This page only takes a short address. Use VK's own search to look for people by name.
