How to search for someone on Wattpad by username

Open wattpad.com/user/name to reach a profile. Wattpad Support says you can also type the username in the search field and pick the Profiles filter, in the app and on the website.

Our check asks Wattpad's public users lookup. A "not found" can also mean a closed account, and this page does not look up real names.

How to check a Wattpad username

Type the username without the @. Under 6 or over 20 characters, or with spaces and symbols, it cannot be registered.
We ask Wattpad's public users lookup for the name. A user record means it is taken, and Wattpad's "User not found" answer means no current account has it.
"Not found" is not a promise. Wattpad never reuses names from closed or inactive accounts, and those can look missing.
The real test is the sign-up form or the username change screen, which only accepts a free name.

Wattpad username taken? What you can do

Add a writing word or a number: janewrites, janestories, jane2026.
Wattpad does not free names from closed or inactive accounts, so waiting will not help. Pick a variation.
Keep your favourite form as your display name. Display names can repeat and can include spaces.
If someone uses a name to impersonate you, report the account to Wattpad.

How to change your Wattpad username

iOS and Android: tap your profile picture, then Settings, Account Settings and Username.
Enter the new username and your current password, then tap Done (iOS) or Change (Android).
Web: click your username at the top right, then Settings, then Change next to your username. Enter the new name and your password and click Save.
Wattpad updates your name across your comments, dedications and stories. Your old username becomes free for others.

Reserved and restricted names

Wattpad does not publish a list of reserved usernames. Its rule is that a username used by another account cannot be reused, even when that account is closed or inactive.

Tips

Choose a username you are happy to see on every story credit; Wattpad updates it everywhere when you change it.
Change your name only when you are sure. Your old username is open for anyone to take afterwards.
A "User Not Found" page can also mean you got the name wrong, or the person muted or blocked you.
