BeReal is built around friends, so most people look up a username to add someone. Each account has a unique username and a sharing link at the bottom of the profile page. Enter a username below to check whether a profile answers at bere.al/name.

BeReal username rules

Uniqueness	Your username is unique to you. Usernames are assigned first come, first served.
Change limit	Once per BeReal notification. The new name shows after the next notification and after you post a BeReal.
Notifications	Friends are not notified when you change your username.
Allowed characters and length	Not published in BeReal's help center.
Verified accounts	RealPeople and RealBrand accounts cannot change their username without approval from BeReal support.
Trademarks	If someone shows trademark rights in a username, BeReal can move the name to the trademark owner and help the user pick another.

How to check a BeReal username

Type the username without the @.
We load bere.al/<name> and look for the profile preview that real accounts carry. Missing names load a page without it, which we show as "Looks available".
Open the link to see the profile card. BeReal profiles are mostly visible inside the app, so the web page shows little.
The final test is the app: tap your current username in profile edit and type the new one. BeReal will not accept a name another account has.

BeReal username taken? What you can do

Add a number or a short word: mia.real, mia2go, miaj.
Since usernames are first come, first served, there is no waitlist for a taken name.
If you own a trademark that matches a username, BeReal's policy lets you ask for the name to be transferred.
If an account pretends to be you, report it. BeReal does not allow impersonation.

How to change your BeReal username

Open your profile and tap your profile photo to edit it.
Tap your current username.
Type the new username and tap Change Username.
The new name appears after your next BeReal notification, once you post a BeReal.

Reserved and restricted names

BeReal does not publish a reserved list. Verified RealPeople and RealBrand accounts keep their usernames unless support approves a change, and trademark owners can claim a matching name.

Tips

If you turn off "Find me by my phone number", people can still find you through mutual friends or by your username.
Share your username with "Invite friends on BeReal" under the search bar, so friends add the right account.
Your change waits for the next notification, so do not panic if the old name still shows for a while.
